Arizona’s county jails are operated by sheriffs and hold a constitutional responsibility: the safe, humane custody of every person detained. Meeting modern standards for medical care, mental health services, staffing, and facility conditions is one of the largest operational and budgetary challenges counties face.

The Association convenes detention leaders statewide, coordinates shared standards and training, and advocates for the resources counties need to run constitutional jails.
