Every child, educator, and family deserves to know that communities are prepared for emergencies before a crisis occurs. School safety extends beyond school resource officers or physical security—it includes planning, training, emergency communications, coordinated response, and strong partnerships among schools, public safety agencies, and local communities.
County sheriffs play an important role in helping schools prepare for emergencies, coordinating with school leaders, local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, emergency management professionals, and county officials to improve readiness and strengthen response capabilities.
How the Association is engaged
The Arizona Sheriffs’ Association supports practical, evidence-based investments that improve school safety, including emergency planning, interoperable communications, training, and coordinated response systems. The Association advocates for sustainable funding that helps counties build and maintain these capabilities while respecting local decision-making and ensuring communities are prepared when every second matters.
School safety is not measured by how we respond after a tragedy—it is measured by how well we prepare beforehand.
